College Overview

The College of Engineering was established in 2003 under the name of College of Mining and Environmental Engineering. Then the name of the college was changed in 2009 to the College of Engineering. The college’s mission is to be in line with accreditation standards and cater for opening new engineering specializations, as well as unifying the name of the college as “College of Engineering” with local and international universities.

The College of Engineering at Al-Hussein Bin Talal University is considered one of the academic and research pillars of the university. It includes a distinguished academic staff with pioneering experience in scientific research and in teaching engineering curricula from the theoretical, research and practical aspects. The college offers ten majors for a Bachelor's degree: mining engineering, environmental engineering, chemical engineering, civil engineering, computer engineering, communications engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, network and information security engineering, and renewable energy engineering.

The college keeps pace with scientific developments in engineering fields and achieves this by offering courses that keep pace with the modern era by implementing this through practical application in the college laboratories. The subjects are taught in the college following modern approaches, where the theory is explained and applied to effectively implement the practical aspects by using  engineering and software programs and other applications offered by the university to enable students to build a strong theoretical and practical foundation and further possess practical skills such as programming, design and project management, which contribute to supplying the local, Arab and international market with engineers of  high efficiency and sharp skills. The College of Engineering and all its staff members seek to obtain the National Quality Assurance Certificate.

The College of Engineering is distinguished by the diversity of engineering laboratories necessary to qualify students and their practical application of the subjects taught within the study plan. These laboratories contain advanced equipment, tools, and infrastructure that enable the student to practically apply and understand engineering principles. The College of Engineering includes a department for engineering workshops that will practically apply the basic engineering principles in practical life, such as carpentry, turning, welding, metal casting and forming, forming iron, and electricity and control. This is reflected in refining the student’s personality and creating an effective and useful engineer for the local community. The Department of Engineering contributes to the local community through interaction and cooperation by providing and implementing projects at nominal prices.

In 2014, the college started offering Master programs in computer and network engineering, as well as in renewable energy engineering, where engineering subjects are taught in an advanced manner based on distinguished practical research, which contributes to keeping pace with and developing these fields due to their significant impact on technological progress and renewable energy. In 2021, a Masters program in Health, Safety and Environment Engineering was introduced. The College of Engineering at Al-Hussein Bin Talal University is the only college that grants a Master’s degree in the above-mentioned disciplines in the southern region of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and this gives the university distinction in this field.

The presence of the College of Engineering in Ma'an Governorate in southern Jordan is of great importance. The southern part of Jordan is considered a center for mining-based industries such as phosphates, limestone, potash, silica and fertilizers. This is reflected positively on college students, especially in the majors of mining engineering and environmental engineering. Ma'an Governorate includes many vital and economic projects related to renewable energy and wind energy. The building of the Renewable Energy Research and Development Center at the university was recently completed. In addition, solar farms and wind turbines were recently built through renewable energy projects in the governorate and close to Al-Hussein Bin Talal University to contribute to the generation of electric power and to give the university the opportunity to prepare scientific research in these areas, especially for graduate students, where undergraduate students can also benefit and train through those projects.
