Department of University Requirements

Welcome to the website of the Department of University Requirements in the College of Educational Sciences at Al-Hussein Bin Talal University. The department offers a range of mandatory and elective courses aimed at enhancing students’ culture and knowledge. This helps in shaping their personalities and preparing them to fulfill their academic duties effectively, extending this impact to the local community and job market after graduation. The department seeks to equip students with various skills in fields such as military sciences, sports education principles, dialogue, leadership, and social responsibility, supporting their academic specializations in diverse and contemporary issues like cultural diversity, identity, social responsibility, and volunteer work. This aligns with the university's goal of fostering awareness about volunteer work and its value to the community.

The Department of University Requirements was established by the Council of Deans’ Decision No. (99/1) on 10/10/1999, initially overseeing the mandatory and elective university courses. Currently, the department offers 6 credit hours within the university requirements, including courses such as Military Science and Citizenship, and Principles of Education.

Department Objectives

  1. Promoting Loyalty and Belonging: The department instills national values in students, enhancing their sense of belonging to the country and pride in its land, people, and governance. This is achieved by educating students on the importance of active participation in building and serving society, making them effective contributors to Jordan's development and stability.

  2. Pride in Military and Security Institutions: The department fosters respect and pride in national military and security institutions by highlighting their role in protecting the nation and ensuring its security and stability. This objective builds a base of students aware of their role as citizens supporting national security.

  3. Understanding the Origin and Development of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan: The department provides students with essential information about the history and development of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, deepening their understanding of the nation’s current state and strengthening their connection to its rich history and achievements.

  4. Comprehensive Security Awareness: The department aims to cultivate students’ security awareness from psychological, intellectual, and social perspectives. This helps create a student community conscious of current security challenges and capable of addressing negative ideologies and intellectual deviations.

  5. Awareness of the Risks of Extremism, Social Violence, and Drugs: The department focuses on educating students about social risks they may encounter, such as extremism, social violence, and drugs. This is accomplished through awareness programs and workshops aimed at safeguarding students against these challenges, contributing to a safe university environment and cohesive community.

  6. Promoting Concepts of Sports Education: The department provides students with insights into sports education and its importance in promoting mental and physical health, linking it to the role of sports in developing life skills like cooperation and discipline, making sports education an integral part of general education.

  7. Organizing National and Sports Activities: The department aims to hold activities and programs related to national and sports issues, fostering a collective spirit among students and encouraging their participation in events that enhance their national awareness. These activities include aspects of volunteer work and community service, enhancing students' engagement with their community.
