The main goal of the Department of archaeology is the study, interpretation and protection of Jordan’s cultural heritage. Students who study archaeology develop strong leadership skills as a result of the extensive fieldwork experience and training opportunities offered in this programme.
The archaeology programme is truly multidisciplinary covering in addition to archaeology theories and methods areas like cultural resources management, modern scientific techniques in archaeology, conservation and museum studies. Therefore, the career possibilities for archaeology graduates are wide open. They can find job opportunities with government agencies, consulting firms, museums and universities.
The Ministry of Education has plans to incorporate cultural heritage education in school curricula which will enhance the career opportunities for archaeology students.
