The establishment of the Language Center at Al-Hussein Bin Talal University comes in response to the growing demand for foreign languages competence necessary for the university students and employees of a wide range of careers, particularly in an area that swarms with tourists, mine workers and investors. The importance of this Center stems from the mission of Al-Hussein Bin Talal University as well as the Center’s below- stated objectives.
This Center is the only academic unit of its kind in the Golden Tourism Triangle: Aqaba, Wadi Rum and Petra. As such, this Center is expected to fill in the gap by providing students, workers, hotel receptionists and tourist guides with the language skills necessary to fulfill their needs and duties in the right way.
Mission and Objectives
The mission of the Language Center is to foster the learning of the foreign languages through its high quality programs. Having known that language has remained the most effective tool for communication and social contact and change since the early dawn of history, then, the Center is expected to help improve the social views and customs of the people of the local communities via opening the door wide for the views, opinions and customs of divergent cultures and civilizations. In achieving this mission, the objectives of the Center are to:
v Conduct the placement tests in both Arabic & English.
v Teach the university language requirements (obligatory and elective courses).
v Provide an environment conducive to language learning and research.
v Adhere to high standards of English language instruction and program management.
v Teach Arabic for non-native speakers.
v Coordinate and run special language sessions for TOEFL, IELTS and GRE
v Conduct researches and studies for development of language skills and teaching methods.
