Department of Computer Science

The Department of Computer Science was established under the name Department of Information Technology in the first semester of the 2000/2001 academic year. Initially affiliated with the Faculty of Science, it offered a single specialization in Computer Science to meet the growing needs of society resulting from the rapid advancement of information technology worldwide. The establishment of the department also reflected the vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein and his continued support for the development of information technology in Jordan.

The department is staffed by a distinguished group of faculty members with extensive experience in teaching and research in the field of computer science.

Throughout the program, students study a wide range of subjects, including programming languages, systems analysis and design, databases, computer networks, information security, and artificial intelligence. These courses equip graduates with the knowledge and skills required to enter the labor market in various sectors. In addition, the department is responsible for teaching introductory computer courses and the BASIC programming language to students across the university.

The Department of Computer Science has eight computer laboratories that serve all students. All laboratories are connected to the Internet, providing students with fast and reliable access to information and online resources.

The department adopts an e-learning system to enhance the educational process and support modern teaching methods. The system includes computerized classrooms and online learning facilities.

The department seeks to contribute to national development by preparing highly qualified graduates in computer science who possess strong academic knowledge, professional skills, and well-rounded personalities. Graduates are equipped to meet the evolving demands of the labor market, as reflected in the quality of their graduation projects and their professional competence.

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science requires the successful completion of 132 credit hours. The program is designed to be completed in four years and is offered by Al-Hussein Bin Talal University. It aims to prepare graduates for careers in the public and private sectors, particularly in the fields of information technology, computing, and education. The program also provides students with the academic foundation necessary to pursue postgraduate studies in Computer Science and other IT-related disciplines.

Graduation Requirements

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science is awarded upon successful completion of the following requirements:

• Successful completion of all courses specified in the approved study plan.

• A minimum cumulative GPA of 60%.

• Registration at the university during the final two semesters of study. The summer semester is considered a regular semester for this purpose.

• Completion of the degree within the maximum period permitted by the university regulations, which is seven years.

• Taking the University Proficiency Examination in accordance with the regulations of the Higher Education Council. This examination is optional for non-Jordanian students.
